Why Transparency Matters in Local Government
A city can only truly serve its people when its decisions are made openly and honestly. Transparency allows residents to see whether decisions follow the law and whether they honor the will of the people as democracy is accomplished by a government of the people, for the people, and by the people. True accountability must happen in the light.

Transparency is more than a talking point — it is the foundation of trust between a community and its government. When decisions are made openly, honestly, and with clear explanations, residents can understand not only what their leaders decide, but why those decisions were made. That clarity is essential for a healthy, functioning city.
At its core, transparency is about honesty and integrity. It means that the issues considered in every decision are made known, whether the topic involves the city’s budget, public safety, infrastructure, or the services and amenities that shape daily life in our community. Residents deserve to understand how their elected representatives arrive at their decisions, what information they rely on, and how those choices will affect the future of El Mirage.
Local government holds the purse strings that support the community. Every dollar spent — and every dollar saved — has a direct impact on the people who live here. That is why it is vital that financial decisions are made with complete openness and clear reasoning.
That is the transparent, community‑driven standard our residents deserve, and it is the one I will work to ensure we have in El Mirage.
When residents can see the full picture, they can have confidence that their tax dollars are being used responsibly and in ways that reflect the community’s priorities.
Transparency also ensures that decisions are driven by the will of the people, not by personal preference or hidden agendas. When the process is open, when the facts are shared, and when the reasoning is explained, residents can trust that their voices truly matter. That is how representative government is supposed to work — through elected officials who listen, who communicate honestly, and who make decisions in the light.
In the end, transparency is not just a principle. It is a promise — a promise that the community’s voice will guide the direction of the city, that decisions will be made openly and fairly, and that residents will be able to see whether their government’s actions truly reflect their priorities and improve their quality of life.
